About Da YoungFellaz
Da Youngfellaz: Going for Theirs
Hailing from the Soundview section of the Bronx and Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Jay Storm and Sho-biz are a rap duo paralleled like no other. With ten years worth of grind captured amongst their extensive discography, Da Youngfellaz are an example of Hip Hop’s underdogs, waiting to be discovered. Overcoming industry and personal barriers, what most people see, as going against the norm is exactly what makes them work. Mix in a work ethic reminiscent of Hip Hop music in its prime and you will have reestablished the true essence of the original movement.
“Not being afraid to be judged on what we say on songs, is what sets us apart from other artists,” says Sho-biz. “I feel if you give 100 percent truth no one can ever pull your card or test your truths.”
Grinding and giving truths since high school, the two have taken their music to unbelievable heights. From recording with Hip Hop Legends like Talib Kweli and collaborating with other music notables like George Clinton, Snoop Dogg and Nipsey Hussle, the duo have consistently been doing what they do best. With their former mixtapes “Back 2 Da Basiks” and “The Reflection,” both having amassed more than 100,000 downloads; they have also effectively turned listeners into believers. After recently docking on the shores of Stavanger, Norway, they are also showing their international appeal.
“I think that plane ride from New York to Stavanger, Norway to open up for Snoop Dogg, is when it finally hit me that this is my career.” says Jay Storm. “That was in front of 10,000 people and the feeling was unreal. Then this past February we opened the Nordic Ski Championship in front of 50,000 people. It’s been crazy”
While standing out from everyone else in music, and not being labeled your typical rapper, rank high in what Da Youngfellaz consider to be one of their growing obstacles, inspiration for the two to continue has come in many forms.
“I’ve been inspired by many things,” starts Sho-biz “Seeing my dad chase the music dream and not getting where he wanted to be, helped me push further to get where I want to be musically. The day I told my parents I’m giving up school to chase my music dreams I knew their was no turning back.”
Having just finished recording “The Underclassmen EP,” which will be out relatively soon, Da Youngfellaz are also preparing for the release of Ralph Myerz’ album “Super Sonic Pulse” that will be released overseas in Europe. Showing no signs of slowing down, they are back at work on their next mixtape entitled “Home Coming.” Looking to grind until their liaison can be looked at as one of the best tag teams in Hip Hop, that made music that just wasn’t great lyrically, but also sonically as well, they have a lot of open road to cover and the ride hasn’t even started yet.
